On a beautiful winters morning at Edgemead FC our young stars were ready to go head to head with Edgemead at an early 8am start.
As with every game the boy’s spirits were high and the excitement was evident that the boys were up for it.
With the sun cutting through the cold air our boys started well despite playing into the sun, however from the opening exchanges it was clear that Edgemead would have it easier on the day as they showed a structural set up and passing ability beyond their years. None the less the Bellville boys remained in good spirit and created a few chances of their own, but Tyler and Connor were unable to make it count. It wasn’t till late in the first period that Edgemead managed to score two quick goals after the Bellville defence left too much, on too many occasions, for Kai to do in goals. First period ended 2-0 in favour of the hosts.
The second period Bellville came out guns blazing. This worked as the Bellville boys were creating chance after chance and managed pulled a goal back by through Josh. 2-1. Edgemead then themselves created a few chances but Kyle in goals pulled off a few good saves to, for the time being, keep Bellville in the game. Halfway through the second period Joshua hit the post from a well worked free kick and on the counter Edgemead scored again to make it 3-1 and then again just before the second period came to a close. 4-1 going into the final period.
The last period the Bellville boys were still up for the challenge and in fairness had opportunities to get back into the game and apply some pressure to Edgemead. They unfortunately were just lacking the final product. The complete opposite to Edgemead who made both of their final chances count despite Booth doing his best in goals.
It ended 6-1 in favour of the hosts, truly not a fair reflection of how competitive our Bellville boys were on the day. Having said that, the game was played in good spirit and the Edgemead coaching staff and players should be commended for hosting our boys in such a positive manner.
