For the second week in a row, the boys (along with their parents) saw themselves on an early morning mission. This time away to Sunningdale FC.
As much as the sun was out the wind was pumping and under the backdrop of the beautiful table mountain our boys got ready for the 8am kick off.
As the first period kicked off, one way traffic was the name of the game with the Bellville boys applying the early pressure. Relentless best describes our boys who attack after attack was testing the Sunningdale goalkeeper, who to his credit was singlehandedly keeping his team in the game.
Eventually, however, the deadlock was broken when Booth calmly slotted in a pass from Tyler at far post with his left foot. This seemed to wake Sunningdale up as they ended the first period stronger after testing Kai in goals with two venomous shots. On both occasions Kai was up for the task pulling off easy saves. First period ends 0-1 to Bellville.
The second period again, Bellville came out guns blazing. Kyle and Josh leading from the front and taking the attack to Sunningdale. After Kyle drove the ball forward beating two players he coolly slotted in his shot at the far post with thunderous accuracy. On the few occasion that Austin was called upon in goals he showed his control of the situations seeing the ball out safely and then calmly distributed ball from the back. After the second period the score was 0-2 to Bellville.
The last period saw the boys going hard, as they pushed to extend the lead. On the counter Sunningdale had an opportunity but Kieran gave their attack something to think about. Late on in the last period Kai, after beating the first player, was brought down outside the box. From the free kick Tyler’s shot took a deflection and landed in the back of the net. A deserved 0-3 lead for the Bellville boys. That’s how it would end, smiles all round from all the boys.
Sunningdale FC was great hosts and it was clear that they hold the same philosophy as Bellville City U7’s do, that having fun is more important than winning! At the end of the game their boys and their parents were all still smiling encouraging each other and congratulating our boys!
