Our goaless draw to Edgemead does not do justice to what was an entertaining match.
The game kicked off at 12:15, with clear skies, the stage was set for what would be one of our best games thus far. We were out for vengeance as this was the second time we played Edgemead this season.
Edgemead had the first half kick-off and they wanted to test Kian, our keeper. Edgemead played a long ball to one of their fast paced attackers but Kian was the one to put him off as his thunderous strike missed the wood work. It was obvious that Edgemead’s game plan was built around the pace and height advantage of that same player. We had to change our tactics to match them. Our plan was to man-mark him with one of our strongest central defensive midfielders, Wiandre. The tactic worked as Edgemead struggled to break through our lines.
We worked hard and won most off the ‘battles in the midfield. The boys knew what they had to do and that was to play the ball wide down the channels. They played beautiful one-two passes on both wings. The first half ended goalless as both teams displayed great defending.
The second half began as it ended, with fireworks! It was James’ first game and what a huge difference he made in the game. He played with passion and determination. It was clash of the titans as both sides were evenly matched. The second half had a few hard tackles and unfortunately Aiden was a victim to one. He had an outstanding game but we had to take him off as a precaution. Towards the end of the second half, the game opened up and James missed an opportunity for us to take the lead. He broke away from the halfway line and only had the keeper to beat but he missed the post by a whisker. Edgemead almost had the last say in the game as they put us under a lot of pressure as the game came to a close.
A special mention goes to our man of the match who kept us in the game, Kian Davids and a special mention to his back three, Lucian, Michael and Liam.
Well done boys!
A word of thanks to all the parents who cheered and supported the boys!
