On Saturday 24 June 2017 Bellville Avengers were hosted by Table View club. This was a much anticipated revenge match having been the only team this season to have beaten our boys.
The coach spent the Friday sending personalised motivation voice messages to each and every kid to try and get into their heads and to see if he could perhaps start a new vocation as a South African Tony Robins. Saturday came and the tension was in the air. This was the day that the coach was going to see Table View cry or so he hoped.
The game started on time and the coach found himself crumbling under pressure and running around making last minute changes on who would be in his starting line up. The coach was clearly the weakest link. Table View attacked and the coach struggled to breath as he watched his team fight off wave after wave of attack. 10 minutes in and the boys started to settle and the coach started to notice colours again where previously all he could see was black, white and a kind of grey.
Table View drew 1st blood and it was all to play for. Having made a substitution in the midfield young Simon Hugo gave a phenomenal through ball to the left boot of Matthew Jones who made no mistake and levelled the score.
Table View conceded what was apparently their 1st goal in 7 games or so I am told.
In the 2nd half they upped their game and came at us full force. A slight blunder off a goal kick resulted in the Table View forward smashing their 2nd goal into the Bellville net. Bellville had some great opportunities but were twice denied by the cross bar. Bellville were fighting with all their might but Table View proved just too strong and experienced. The final score 3-1 to Table View but a well contested match and no shame to the Bellville boys for their efforts.
Full time: Tableview FC 3 Bellville City FC 1
So Bellville boys have only lost twice this season and on both occasions to Table View. Next year we will take them.
