1st Team Reserves 30th Apr 2017
The match was played under extreme weather conditions as the temperature soared to 35 degrees Celsius.
As such both teams played at a much slow pace than witnessed in other matches thus far.The team attempted to produce the type of football that we wish to displayed but due to the lack of speed in the game, we were unable to create any clear-cut opportunities.
Our opponents played a long ball strategy which unfortunately, due to a defensive error at the 15 minute, resulted in a chance which they duly took.
This pattern of play continued for the reminder of the half, as both teams created half-chances which neither could take advantage of.
Half time: Bellville City FC 0-1 Vasco da Gama
When the 2nd half started, the team renewed their commitment to take the game to the opposition and this resulted in the team gaining a slight ascendency.
Unfortunately, a swift counter-attack allowed our opponents to score another goal at the 55 minute mark.
This did not however dampen the team’s spirits of determination, rather it lifted them.
Also the new legs introduced from the bench showed a willingness to assist the team and provided great impetus. This along with a change in shape resulted in great movement from the forward and Ayden Jacobs sent a pinpoint cross which was expertly finished by Johnathan Carter.
This goal at the 65 minute mark gave the team the boost they needed as they now totally dominated the game. At the 70 minute mark, more good play and after drawing the opponent goalkeeper out of position, Johnathan Carter crossed the ball into the box and A. Jacobs gleefully put it into an empty net.
With their energies now up, the team pushed hard for the winner but were unable to get it.
