Bellville City FC Ladies team had a great run in their first league game of the 2017 season, which the club hosted at PP Smits. The ladies appreciated the supporters, including a number of the clubs 1st Team players and Committee, who came to watch the ladies play.
The new kit made a great impression on the ladies, which even elevated the mood and levels of determination within the squad. The coaching staff had lots of headaches in deciding who should be included in the starting XI, mainly due to the growing squad numbers as well as injuries to some players – sustained in our friendly games and at the fives futbol mix tournament.
The nervous energy could be seen in the first 5 minutes of the game as the ladies were determined not to lose their first game at home, which made things a little more difficult for the coaches as the team where not playing to instructions.
The heat also played a factor on how we where to take the game forward, as most ladies could not handle the 30° temperature we faced on the day. We recovered well when the ref Charl Steyn gave both the teams a deserving 2min water break on the 20th min.
We slowed our game down in the second half, mainly to combat and manage the effect of the heat and to conserve energy. Substitutions were also made through the second half as to assess how the subs would impact/adapt to the game.
Full Time: Bellville City FC 5 UCT 1
Congratulations and well done to Sanchia for scoring the first hat-trick of the 2017 season, for both the ladies and within the club – all in the 1st half as well!
However, as we did not having enough cards for our players due to still waiting on the district to issue the outstanding cards, the team had to forfeit the points.
Well done to UCT coaching staff, great game to Bellville ladies.
