First game of the season and the boys were all excited for the opening. (Coaches agree on playing six inside plus goalie.)

Being their first time together it was quite surprising to see how well our team started against a usually strong De Beers team.

First Third : Our boys are playing all the football on the field with De Beers playing catch up, but we have nothing to show for our efforts.

Second Third : After a few minutes we finally get that elusive goal (Riaan Kuyk) and the boys start showing a hunger for more. Unfortunately, we concede a silly goal from a dramatic injury, which has everyone’s attention but one of their players who scores with all the youngsters looking at crying player on the ground.  Ref allows and it’s 1 all.

Final Third : De Beers got better after scoring and now applying some pressure on us, leading to goal kick. Our keeper throws the ball in straight to one of their players before being able to get to his goal. The De Beers player obliges and suddenly we’re down 2-1. After some tough battles in the midfield and chances going either way (we had most of it….in my mind) we were awarded a penalty for a De Beers player handling the ball inside the area. Riaan Kuyk stepping up(after coach’s instruction from the other end of the field) and scores a good penalty.

Well done boys!!!…. Very unlucky to draw, but a lot to look forward to in the season.
