Dear Members and Parents
Feedback: Break-in at PP Smit
On Monday night, 12 March, at approximately 10pm, there was a break-in at our clubhouse at PP Smit Sports Fields. The local Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) alerted Basset Security and then contacted me. A number of Committee members came to the clubhouse to inspect the damage and meet with the NHW and police.
The perpetrators broke into our store room which contained all our football kit, including match kits, balls, bibs, cones etc. A Forensics detective also came to the clubhouse to take fingerprints and the investigation is still ongoing.
The Committee met at the club last night, to take stock and we can confirm that approximately 90% of our kit has been stolen. That which is left is all odds and ends.
We, as your Committee, are working towards recouping the losses via sponsorships and a number of large Corporates, including Santam, Sanlam, Metropolitan and Sportsman’s Warehouse- all of whom have been approached for assistance.
Andrew featured on John Maytham’s show on Cape Talk on Tuesday, with an appeal to the community to assist us with sponsorship etc. and he explained the impact that the theft has on a community club like ours.
He has also contacted Ryan O’Connor, from KFM, who himself was U16A Captain at BCFC in the past.
I have also contacted the City of Cape Town to request assistance in the form of supplying us with balls, cones, bibs etc. to enable us to start training. There will be an article in next week’s Tygerburger regarding the break-in as well.
Over the last few seasons, we have received many requests from players and parents that they be allowed to buy their own match shorts, instead of sharing shorts from the kit bag.
This is now the ideal opportunity for us to implement this. We will be ordering club shorts and socks and we hope to have these available on 10 April when Mini training starts. Match shirts will still be handed out before each match and must be returned after the match.
Further communication regarding sponsorship and the costing for kit will be sent out shortly and we appeal to players/parents who are able to assist with sponsorship to contact the Committee.
Remember that our Mini leagues kick-off on Saturday 14 April. I look forward to seeing you there.
