We arrived at Sunningdale at 7:10pm due to traffic and guys finishing work only at 6pm and rushed to change and take the field in time for kickoff. This, coupled with a couple of key players who could not make the trip, did not make for the most ideal build up to this match.
The steady drizzle on a perfect pitch made for skidding and strange bounce of the ball which the guys struggled with well into the second half. We got off to the worst start conceding 2 goals early due to sloppy defending.
A couple of positional changes after the two goals meant some good attacking runs, leading to a penalty that stand in captain Jaco Haak converted.
This did not change the lack of control and sloppyness in possession and we continued to struggle with especially our shape in defense going to pieces. Definitely an off night for basically the whole squad. Herno van der Linden did his best to keep the score line in check but eventually we lost 5-1.
Very disappointed after we had two good matches on a trot. We’ll have to turn it around quickly against Durbanville this coming weekend.
My Man of the Match goes to Ian van der Merwe who played his socks off and played intelligently and was the only one who was good at keeping the ball and distributing.
All in all this was a match to forget.
