A combined 1st and 1st Reserve squad played a pre-season friendly against local rivals Bothasig on a great evening for football at Ajax’s training facility in Parow, the objective of the evening being to experiment with structure, shape and the assessment of players in a variation of positions.
Bothasig used the game time in a similar manner in preparation for their season ahead in the 1st Division, where they finished 3rd last season.
The game was took the form of three thirds of 35 minutes each as to enable the respective coaches to meet their pre-season objectives,
Whereas Bellville City FC played a blend of 1st and 1st team reserves through the first two thirds, Bothasig tended to play their 1st team reserve team, inclusive of fringe players, over the same period – playing their 1st XI in the final third.
Over the three periods, the Bellville City squad played some constructive, decisive and positive football – coming from a goal down early in the first third to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period, thanks to two great finishes from Aidi.
The second third was competitive, yet fairly uneventful.
The final third saw Bothasig equalize early in the final period before Bellville City started to take control of the final 15-20 minutes, putting pressure on the Bothasig midfield and defense. Aidi combined well with Jadey, resulting in the latter scoring to put Bellville City 3-2 up. Olla completed a great evening to make it 4-2 to The City!
A positive pre-season game for Coaches Grant & Quinton, and for the Bellville supporters at the game.
